Volunteer
We are accepting volunteers to help grow food for the White Center Food Bank in our 37 school beds and to help out in other parts of our botanical gardens. Our food bank harvest time is Wednesday mornings between 10 and noon am from April until mid November. We also have some Saturday work parties and some volunteers work independently on their own schedules. We can take volunteer groups of up to 15-20 with enough planning. See our volunteering FAQs below for more details about groups. Youth groups need to have a 1 to 3 adult to youth ratio. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates and special volunteer event days. Our partner the Weed Warriors Nature Stewards Program can also arrange community service hours. Note that we take the week of 4th of July off as our summer break and weather may cancel a few days.
We are an organization founded and operated by a committed network of volunteers, students, and community members. These supporters contribute in innumerable ways throughout the year to keep our community garden growing. We are almost entirely volunteer run and you can help us grow even further!
If you are interested in volunteering with New Start Community Garden, we'd love to have you join us! We want all of our volunteers to feel like they are contributing in the way that suits them best! Some examples of possible types of volunteer support include:
Organizing a Volunteer Work Party
Watering Vegetable, Flower, and Berry Beds
Planting Vegetables for the School and Food Bank
Harvesting Produce for the Food Bank
Weeding & Mulching Beds or Pathways
Teaching a Class for Students or the Public
Photography & Videography
Creating Artwork for the Garden
Fundraising or Grant Writing
Playing Music at one of our Events
Please share your ideas with us on how you’d like to help!
