Plant Allies! Herb Walk & Medicine Making

In this beginners herbal medicine class, we will start by taking a garden walk through the Shark Garden's herb collections and identifying some of the most abundant herbal plant allies to include in a garden. We will cover the basics of their growing needs, their medicinal properties, and their uses among the indigenous peoples who belong to each plant. Then we'll have a chance to work with a few herbs to learn how to make medicine with them.

Our instructor is MistyDawn, a steward of the Arboretum Garden at the UW Arboretum and Bastyr University's Medicinal Herb Gardens. Misty is also a founding organizer of Black Star Farmers, a collective that works to increase community access to land throughout the City of Seattle.
